SMX West: The Big Guys Look At Blended Search

More nontraditional stuff on the way

Problem with search

Already the localization of google search is bothering ppl. For enyone in countries other than US. Google has been active in localizing the search and pumping up results within that geographic area. With the internet and internet shops being universal this is just plain silly.

If you are looking for local stores all the countries I work in have much better local info anyway and way beond what is possible for google based on the old phone companies. This will not change as those searches are based on the yellow pages for that country.

initially I would say this

initially I would say this means less traffic to individual sites, but maybe the larger effect will be that people will go deeper than the first page for results as all of that other stuff clutters up the first page.

what would be better is that they allowed for tuning the search by media type or content type. I might not want to see videos or local results
