Cable's Dying, The FCC's Killing It

Dual must-carry rule signals bigger troubles ahead

Cable VS. Satellite

This is interesting.  The cable companies really don't have anyone to blame but themselves.  If this has been going on for years, and all households were supposed to be converted in 2006, that gave the big cable companies plenty of time to plan for these changes.  I used to hate the satellite companies, thinking they were just too complicated to deal with in terms of the requirements needed to simply watch television.

I remember all of the commercials that made fun of the satellite tv companies for having problems in the middle of snow storms, rain, and all that.  I thought the last thing I would need was a satellite system.  The cable setup seemed really simple.  Then came the dreadful time when I got a ridiculous bill from the cable company, and they even added a $400 charge for their equipment fee.  I rushed their property back to them, and never thought twice about cable television again.

I assume the FCC has got to be making some money from not helping the cable companies out.  For what they were charging me, (around $89 a month) for what I'm paying around $35 a month for satellite, I get more programming and less hassles.

I think satellite technology is here to stay.  Just ask Google with the Virtual Earth, and all of the other technological advancements involving satellites.
