I like how there is a growing number of niche social networks that cater to a particular interest. While the bigs are definitely useful for general socializing with friends, sharing photos, etc, there will be great opportunities for smaller niche networks to jump into the game offering unique and specialized features.

For the past year I have been developing a social network, Style Estate - Social Interior Design which is basically a social network for interior designers, decorators, and home enthusiasts in general. The website blends some of my favorite features from other websites such as ratemyspace aka roomzaar, kaboodle, thisnext, amongst others. However, Style Estate offers some very unique concepts and features.

This means users can restrict who sees their information and block unwanted visitors from their site.

its pretty cool. its a little different from your usual social networks like bebo, myspace, fb. friendevent is like a calendar social network where you can see what all of your friends have planned and you can share with them what you have planned. its like a calendar with a social networking spin to it.

Bebo is a horizontal network.... just like a pancake. Here today... flat and burnt tomorrow. I think we are gonna see the net take on more and more vertical niche social networks which actually make money and server a significant purpose rather than simply waste time.
