Interesting news, Doug. Thanks. In general, there's quite a bit going on in image search these days, and the developments don't get as much press as they probably should.
Yahoo's integration of Flickr results definitely has backed off a bit, while Google's integration of Picasa results is still quite limited.
Moreover -- and this is generally missed by most people -- there's a substantial difference in results from the different search engines. If you do a comparison using a site like Zuula , for example, it's apparent that image search results vary much more significantly across the different search engines than, say, web search results.
Perhaps this is why there are non-trivial players in the image search space (e.g., Pixsy).
