Couldn't agree with you more. I believe that the reason companies and alot of new SEO companies target "Long Keyword Strings" i.e. "the dangers of keyword research for website" INSTEAD of "keyword research" is because they can't compete and their SEO skills are not what they claim to be.

Plus the reason they claim this is their strategy is due to the fact that you can pick nice long keyword strings without actually have to do much SEO at all.

As you say, analytics, sitemaps, adsense still the best forms of keyword research. Be careful of the tools alot of them are easily manipulated!
