On Staying "on topic"

I'm not sure I'd agree that staying on the same topic at all times is necessarily the best practice, furthermore, it may do more harm than good.

Google in particular are working hard to punish keyword flooding, and writing everything with a limited range of keywords in mind is a sure fire way to fall foul of this.

Leaving that to one side for now, though, it is also true that veering "off topic" from time-to-time may well enhance your website in more than one of the following ways:

1. It encourages new readers who may not be particularly interested in (or not searching for) your primary messages;

2. Those people might link in to your "off topic" pages creating a higher search ranking for that page, and your site as a whole;

3. Increasing the number of topics which your content covers offers your business opportunities to diversify at a later stage.

Hammering away at "trucker jobs" for 100 days may work initially, but I'd be surprised if it brings in a huge amount of traffic - you really need a broader spectrum of keywords.

Rule number 1 in my opinion is this:

when producing any keyword heavy content, use your key phrase in the URL, the title, a h1 tag and a couple of times throughout the body of your text.

As long as what you are writing is genuinely interesting and unique, the links and hits will develop more naturally, as you become recognised as a leader in this field.

Most other tactics are verging on spammy, and may well be recognised as such. As always, content is king.

Thanks for the great seo tips! Jim

Seo

Nice article about seo. I'm trying to learn all I can. Thanks!

Keyword Phrase Domain Names

Great article! I do not claim to be an expert at SEO but I have found some techniques that do work. When most people select a domain name for their business they are looking for that short, catchy .com that sounds good and is applicable to whatever it is that they are selling.

If you are looking to go to the top of Google for a specific keyword phrase it is as easy as buying the domain name itself as well as making the title of your site the same as the keyword phrase that is reflective of your business.

Long domain names are not a bad thing when it comes to getting free search engine traffic. An example is, if you have written a book about how to build an entertainment center, buy the domain name howtobuildanentertainmentcenter.com. This domain name is definitely a long .com but if you title your site accordingly you will be number one for this keyword phrase.

People are learning to be more specific with their search engine inquiries. In my experience, this is a benefit for those who want to dominate a keyword phrase that may be lengthy but at the same time lucrative.

This is the easiest and most effective SEO strategy that I have come accross that actually works. Sure it is elementary, but think of all of the keyword phrase domain names that are still available and as people learn to be more specific with their search engine queries, over the years the long keyword phrase domain names will pay off.

back to basics to push top SERPS

My induction to web development came in the era of the 28K modem. Back then you could submit your site to a SE and watch its ranking performance over the course of that day, tweak it again, upload it and watch it kick butt!

Granted the WWW has changed dramatically in the last 11 years. However, the basics of SEO still remain.

Being a member at a number of webmaster forums & owning both a web development & SEO company I'm asked to review people's web sites.

The most alarming issues are those of basic site structure. For instance two title tags, BIG chunks of JavaScript in the header that should be placed in an external file, not mention 30+ lines of CSS that should also be in an external file. This list goes on...

Having a site that's bot friendly and easy to crawl should be people's #1 priority.

Make use of H tags, alts, learn CSS and try to do away with tables. If you must use tables make them work for you not against your SEO efforts.

If you rely on a WYSIWYG editor use one that doesn't add extra code. Better still take some time out and learn the basics of good web design structure.

Put it this way. A poorly constructed site is like taking 2 spark plugs out of your car and wondering why is coughs, splutters & back fires.

Having your finger on the pulse in regards to your web site code structure is no different, it will ultimately help you with your SEO SERPS.

SEO vs #1 spot on Google

Hi

This element is always forgotten and thus fooling everybody.
I got to #1 on Google for a search term on the set of pages of 1 bln pages...and guess what?

There were no clicks or sales coming from that...
And nobody knows statistics how many searches per month to particular pages...

Try to tell more about this variant.

New Site Ranking Website

I have not submitted this to the search engines as of yet - because this domain name was submitted about a year ago, So I was waiting for the page rank to go away. Now that it's just about all gone, I will release this new site on Friday Septebmer 14th. Bet this will grab high traffic.

Thanks for all your news letters, I love them.

Google feeding

There is a cool new Web 2.0 Portal www.whynotad.com that allows users to make (free) ads, the smart programming gives search engine spiders the feeds they need to place your ad information at a higher rank in search results.

Don't believe it then google "samsung versace" and see whynotad at rank number 3.

You can place as many ads as you like, news releases, product launch, website directory, etc.

SEO Essentials

If you do nothing else, you must do these 3 things. And if you do, you'll be able to take out 95% of your competition easily! 1) Enhance meta to reflect critical keyword phrases, 2) Ensure content is plentiful and consistent with your targeted keyword phrases, and 3) Become active in the social web community, and establish inbound links with anchor text reflecting targeted keyword phrases.</p> <p>Thank you,</p> <p>Robert D.
