Please do your homework rather than regurgitate the PR machine at Redfin. They weren't the first online real estate firm by a long shot...Zip Realty and BuySide Realty were both earlier online. As recently as three years ago Redfin was peddling mapping software to Realtors and websites like Housevalues and have only in the last 3 years changed their business model.
