Great

This is awesome advice for someone like me who is new to all of this, and I hate Windows so anything that gets me off of it, I appreciate. Thanks for this.

Thanks

Thanks for this list. It is nice to hear what the best of the best are using. I personally like Linux for its reliability. I am not a big fan of Windows, and it seems a lot of people would agree. Thanks for the post, it is greatly appreciated!

Ya, most companies love linux because its just reliable. what are you guys use?

LAMP - Follow the Light

When it comes to database and server systems for our organization we "follow the light" - LAMP

L-Linux
A-Apache
M-MySQL
P-PHP

These are the requirements we look for in a provider as they provide the most scalability.

Well Apache, that seems to

Well Apache, that seems to me like a great choice. Nice study BTW.

Of course

Of course most people use Linux, Apache, PHP and MySQL. It's your typical server setup. Is that something new? Plus, why waste money on Windows when you can get something free and better?

It was interesting to know that Meebo uses C/C++, I always wondered what kind of tehnology they use server-side :)

I wasted my whole day yesterday trying to figure this stuff out.  I'm glad i found this today its benn a big help.

Very interesting study.  Quality read.  PHP and MySql are very flexible and easier to work with.  I agree with Jeff and Mark.

I agree I use it almost for

I agree I use it almost for everything, I am using wordpress as my CMS

PHP and MySql are the best

Interesting study but I can honestly say that I am not that surprised by the results.  PHP and MySql are so much more flexible and easier to work with.  In the sense of fairness though I am a self-proclaimed "Microsoft hater". ;-)

Just my two cents

Mark

Yeah, its very interesting

Yeah, its very interesting study but are you really not surprised by the results? I know for a fact that PHP is more flexible and easy to work with but i can not agree so much on MySql.
