Mess
Currently I don't think they have any system other than URL age, their system has become nonsensical
Yahoo Site Explorer
I upload our sitemap to yahoo site explorer at regular intervals and they definitely seem to appreciate it. New pages are picked up much more quickly.

Yahoo Sitemaps Suck
I have pinged Yahoo's update notification service multiple times, and each time get a successful result, but Yahoo has never updated its listing for my web site.
The listing in dir.yahoo.com shows the up-to-date page title and description, but the listing on Yahoo's main search results page shows an infinitely outdated listing from Dmoz, and even using the -META Name="ROBOTS" Content="NOODP"- tag doesn't seem to help.
Yahoo's notification web services are pathetically broken and I don't see them getting fixed any time soon.

Nice Tips
Thanks for the keyword tips especially. However, I don't agree with the sitemaps, Yahoo seems to download the map files but never uses them to crawl a site in my experience.
