PHP preg and the Dark side

The PHP preg tool is one of the most powerful search tools out there.  It has a great ability to do matches quickly and efeciently and this is why it is also used by those who are scrapping the net for emails.  I recently had a job doing something similar.  It was grabbing a massive amount of pdfs from a open writters forum(about 7 gb worth).  I was able to write a php script that crawled through the forum and downloaded the files in only 8 hours.

Through writting the program I could see how easily someone with a little bit of knowledge could build a very simple email scraper.  So if you want to read a bit more specific on my site ChrisMcintoshDesigns

Thanks for the great refresher article,

Chris
