Attaining First Page or First Place Results
Attaining excellent SERPS for most terms is a matter of dotting all you i's and crossing all your T's from an SEO prospective.
Keep your content relevant and focused on your targeted phrases, using their semantic equivalents as well.
Keep keyword density between 3 - 5 %.
ALWAYS USE h1 with your targeted phrase
h2 other relevant and semantic topic headers
Make your title, and description 100 % relevant to your page content
Keep you site navigation themed and focused.
Use image alt txt
Build quality links from relevant sites in your industry.
Link out to a few authority sites
Get listed in DMOZ and Yahoo Dir
Once you feel you have it all covered, leave it alone, dont keep optimizing the page. Build links for a month or two.
You should see a near immediate jump in SERPS after the SE's next cache of your pages, and a continued increase over the next few months.
Good luck
