I have breadcrumb

I have breadcrumb functionality implemented in my web sites. I have read that it is good for SEO of web site. And I don`t see anything wrong in using web templates.

Being a website tempalte designer and data driven website developer we sometimes have mixed openion on the layout as database side is more about vieing the data accurately which may include grids and tables while SEO friendly web design requries less use of table.Any suggestion on taht?

I am glad you mentioned Frontpage. I use Frontpage and find if you do the "spidey thing" it can help. Great article, so much to learn.

Breadcrumbs...

Great article Shari! I'd just like to add some interesting stuff I found about breadcrumbs.

I took a large website (1000+ pages) and did my normal SEO and promotion, without using any breadcrumb functionality. The search engines were missing at least half of the pages from their indexes, even though I had a strong linking structure.

Once I put the breadcrumb functionality into the website, it only took a few days for all the SEs to finally index every single page on the site.

Bottom line: Breadcrumbs can help the search engines to "find their way" (so to speak).

Web Page Templates

Shari provides some very helpful information regarding the design of templates. we use templates all the time, albeit to mass produce hundreds of static web pages, complete with page-specific meta tag data. We've eschewed the use of Dreamweaver, Front Page, etc. in lieu of a series of tried-and-true AWK, and SED scripts, a Python App, the VIM editor and a plug-in for VIM called Walk.
