Blogs
The problem is...you can't just go ahead and hire Bloggers to have them write what you or any ad agency wants. That's NOT what blogs are about and even an A list bloggers who is proud of how much money they make from their blog won't sell out like that ..in fact they will be the last ones to go for it coz they don't need it. Maybe the much smaller blogger would jump at being paid to write, but for most..it's insulting.
The thing is with blogs is that 1) they are self idenitified. So bloggers are decree who they are and what the rules are. It's like Outlaw rules. And then, 2), the main thing with Bloggin is that is about the relationships. So unless the marketing/ad firm goes out first and builds up that relationship, then they have no credibility with bloggers.
So passive ads, one thing, but openly paying them...something else entirely.
Now do the marketers SEE the need, or want to jump on the bandwagon,.,.,sure! It's true that Blogs do matter and do wield power. But it has to be on their terms.
Hiring A List Bloggers
I found your predicitons about the future of advertising on blogs to be preety interesting. How far do you think AD companies will be willing to go in order to acquire ad space on popular blogs. Do you think hiring outside A list bloggers will eventually become a significant portion of there budgets? There is this free conference I am going to go to in vegas called o Postiecon which will be centered around Monetizing blogs, creating traffic ect... that you might want to check out. thanks for your ideas!
