  • After yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, fans across Twitter and Facebook said 2013 was the year of Nintendomination. It’s hard to deny after seeing announcements for such a broad range of titles that all appeal to the hardcore gamer, not to mention a remake of the greatest Zelda game ever made. Unfortunately, all of these titles are months away, but fans can at least enjoy a few eShop games while they’re waiting.

Coming to the eShop for Wii U this week is the beginning of a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the Famicom, or Family Computer. What you remember as the NES in America was a little red and gold box in Japan that read floppy discs. It turns 30 this year and in celebration, Nintendo will be offering a new Virtual Console title on the Wii U each month for the reduced price of 30 cents.

First up is Balloon Fight, a classic arcade-like title for the NES. The game will be available for the reduced price of 30 cents until February 21. The other games coming to the service in the coming months include F-ZERO, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mike Tyson Mr. Dream, Kirby’s Adventure, Super Metroid, Yoshi and Donkey Kong.

Also on the Wii U eShop this week is The Cave and Funky Barn. The Cave is the latest game from Double Fine and Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert. If you’re in the mood for a quirky title with a lot of heart, you can’t go wrong here. As for Funky Barn, you’re probably better off just browsing its absurd Miiverse community.

The 3DS gets a number of additions to its eShop as well this week with a demo, a full retail game and a few eShop titles. First up is the demo for Brain Age: Concentration Training. The latest game in the super popular Brain Age series is back with a vengeance and the demo should give you an idea of what to expect.

The other titles available on the 3DS eShop this week include Super C, Cocoto Alien Brick Breaker and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars.
