When news of a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot got out a while back, many were extremely skeptical that it could be anything but a silly good time, even with Michael Bay's name attached to it. But the trailer was released this week, and gives us what promises to be a darker look at the story us '80s babies grew up with.
The preview shows us a quick glimpse of Shredder, along with a good look at April O'Neill (Megan Fox) in her iconic yellow coat. We get several action shots and a hint at a backstory involving Shredder and April's father that may see them inventing the ooze that transformed the turtles into superheroes.
As for the turtles themselves, they look a bit more humanoid than the original guys and are quite a bit bigger; check out April's shock when she sees Michelangelo unmasked.
From the synopsis:
The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.
