Citysearch Search Engine Secures Deal With Overture

Citysearch, an engine for local searches in cities in the United States and abroad, has signed a deal with Yahoo-owned Overture to integrate Overture's sponsored search listings. These listings will appear in areas where Citysearch has available ad inventory such as home services, professional services, and medical specialists.

The deal calls for Overture to provide keyword based ads and search results. Overture will also serve contextually sponsored search results on the Citysearch site above its editorial listings, under the heading "Sponsored Results."

"We are excited to be able to extend our extensive network of local traffic to Overture's sponsored search listings, providing their advertisers with a rich base of users," said Briggs Ferguson, chief executive office of Citysearch. "We believe that contextually relevant and appropriate advertising will help to enhance our user experience, by providing the information needed to make informed decisions on local services and goods."

This move is another among 3 major moves that Yahoo and Overture have completed today. The other 2 being Yahoo securing the rights to CNN and SI's website search function, and Yahoo's agreement with Plaxo to provide desktop search ability for Plaxo's Contact software.

Citysearch was in talks with Google to provide these services.
