Google has a spell check feature that most users are aware of. If the keyword you are searching is misspelled (carz instead of cars), Google with recommend what it thinks is the correct spelling.
As reported in Rugles.com, Google may be taking this spell check suggestion feature and expanding it to include similar keywords.
For instance, if you search the word "shoes", Google's Keyphrase suggestion may offer more specific types of shoes like running shoes or another derivative.

However, this user could not duplicate the keyphrase suggestion query. The searches performed on Google never yielded keyphrase suggestions, even when the keyword was misspelled.
The screen shots appear to verify however, that keyphrase suggestions have been observed on Google result pages.
