Spymac Gives 1 Gig Of Email Storage

A Mac-based Web hosting company is following Google's email lead. Spymac announced they would be giving away 1 gigabyte worth of email storage to its members.

The company said that new and existing members would receive the storage capacity at no charge. Unlike Google, Spymac said they would not be scanning email content for the purposes of placing targeted ads within the email. These free accounts will be available to all OS users.

In addition to its online storage options, Spymac offers POP3 and Webmail access to its account members.

These moves by Spymac and Google put pressure on MSN's Hotmail and Yahoo Mail. Each of these companies offer, comparatively speaking, paltry amounts of storage to non-premium members. Premium members are charged anywhere from $10 to $50 USD for storage amounts that fail when compared to Google and Spymac.

Speaking to ZDNet UK, Kevin April, Spymac's co-founder and chief technology officer, said, "Yahoo and Hotmail may have to (give away more storage), if they want to stay in the game."
