They may be actual leaks or perhaps careful PR attempts to enhance the buzz about the Xbox 360.

Detailed technical specifications for Microsoft’s next-generation gaming console, the Xbox 360, began to circulate yesterday.

The alleged leak first appeared on the TeamXbox forums, where it was “quickly” removed after being viewed multiple times.

The console will be able to sit on one end, like the Playstation 2 does now. For appearances, the faceplate can be customized; maybe a new game would come with a matching faceplate.

At the core of the Xbox 360 will be three 3.2 Ghz PowerPC-based CPUs. 512mb of memory and an ATI graphic processor will be onboard.

One odd listing for a detachable 20gb hard drive appears in the leaked details. Previous rumors suggested the drive would be 40gb in size.

Also included was information on the Xbox Live gaming service. Two types of Xbox Live, Silver and Gold, would allow gamers to include a detailed game profile about themselves.

Further, Xbox Live participants would have access to various downloadable content from the service. The Silver service does not require a subscription. The Gold service will, and appears to be the one that will include multiplayer online gaming.
