Microsoft has released a new ad featuring Internet Explorer 9, and it would appear the company knows how to make fun of itself. Microsoft describes its browser as only being good for downloading other browsers:

Interestingly, Internet Explorer still holds around 50% of the browser market share, so a lot of the users poked fun of in the commercial are accurately depicted as not being able to leave the Microsoft comfort zone. Still, Google Chrome has been making steady gains in the browser market:


Here is an earlier ad Microsoft made for IE9, that displays a Metro UI functionality akin to what has been shown of the upcoming Windows 8.

Mozilla is also readying a Metro rendition of Firefox for Windows 8, as well as Google Chrome.

    This is definitely a strange marketing strategy for the historically mocked Internet Explorer, but perhaps it will prove to be brilliant. Perhaps Microsoft is completely on target and the future of browsers will be for users to use several simultaneously. IE’s new website and marketing outlook shows that Microsoft is ready to start fresh with a new approach.
