Marketing Sherpa is running their 4th annual survey for the next Search Engine Marketing Benchmark report.

Last year over 3,000 marketers took the survey on Pay Per Click and search engine optimization tactics and practices. This year’s survey is only 13 questions and takes just a few minutes to complete.

Questions are heavily focused towards pay per click but also ask respondents to rate emerging tactics such as social search, blogs and pay per call. Examples of this year’s survey questions:

“When looking for ways to increase conversion, please describe the ROI of the following tactics:”

  • Behavioral targeting
  • Demographic targeting
  • Contextual targeting
  • Dayparting
  • Weekparting
  • Seasonal trends

“How important are the following challenges to the search marketing efforts of your clients?”

  • Keyword price inflation
  • Click fraud
  • Increasing competition for natural search rankings
  • Increasing competition for top paid search positions
  • Challenge of tracking total ROI of search marketing
  • Tracking offline conversions

The last Search Marketing Benchmark Guide had budget, heat maps, SEO stats and 5 special reports. Very useful information when you want to discern trends and compare your own budgets and marketing mix to others in the industry. You can still get the 2007 SEM Benchmark Guide here.
