Touchscreen and standard keyboard for Google's first?

Not too long ago, there were rumors that the first generation of Android-based phones was running late.  Now that bit of gossip’s been denied by official sources, and what’s more, a video of what’s supposed to be the HTC Dream device has been seen.

Fair warning: this is a UFO-type film in the sense that it features shaky camera work and half of the important stuff is sometimes off-screen.  Things are out of focus, too, and no authority has confirmed that what’s on display is real.  (The video came separate from the HTC "we’re on schedule" statement.)

Anyway, "Godzilla" from the TmoNews Forums seems to be responsible for the clip’s appearance, and MG Siegler writes, "You’ll notice that [the Dream] has a large touchscreen interface just like the iPhone, but that it also has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.  This could be the killer feature that gives it traction against the iPhone."

At least one Google exec has discussed various forms of one-upping before, leaving everything within the realm of believability so far.

This looks to mostly be a case of "wait and see," however, with the ball being in HTC’s court about whether to confirm or deny the video’s accuracy.  Then the inevitable Android-iPhone comparisons (and bashing) can really begin, with any clear winner standing to gain quite a bit of cash.
