  • Netflix knows you love Bill Burr, so it’s giving the abrasively funny comedian yet another original content deal.

First it was a new standup special, and now it’s an animated series. Netflix has announced that Bill Burr will star in a six-episode animated show called F is for Family. The show, which is based on Burr’s comedy, will also feature the voices of Laura Dern and Justin Long.

The show follows the Murphy family, and is set in the 70s, “a time when you could smack your kid, smoke inside and bring a gun to the airport.”

Burr will play the father, Dern the mother, and Long the couple’s elder son. The show’s being produced by new True Detective star Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Television, as well as Gaumont International.

“Bill Burr’s stand-up specials are wildly popular for us worldwide, and we’re looking forward to presenting his nostalgic and unflinching take on the family comedy in this original, animated series,” said Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content at Netflix.

In other words, Netflix knows, thanks to big data, that you love Bill Burr. So Netflix is going to give you what you want. This is how Netflix makes many of its content decisions. Remember when Netflix gave Adam Sandler a four-movie deal earlier this month? That’s because you love Adam Sandler movies.

F is for Family is the show I’ve always wanted to do. It captures all the characters of my childhood the way I remember it to be. Fortunately Mike Price and everyone at Wild West seem to know the same people I knew growing up. It’s going to be a lot of fun to tell these stories,” said Bill Burr.

F is for Family will debut some time in 2015.
