NBC is introducing a new social media game aimed at promoting the network’s series "Chuck" by getting fans to spread the word about the program on social networking sites.

The game called "Mission: Chuck Me Out" allows fans to use Facebook, Twitter and MySpace or the Chuck Me Out website to talk about the show.

Users can earn points by becoming fans of the show on the Chuck Facebook Fan Page, by Tweeting about the program or by getting friends to watch episodes on NBC.com

The game runs from today through March 8, 2010. The fan with the most points at the end of the game will have their photo appear in an episode of Chuck. Other prizes include a second season DVD of the series autographed by the title star Zachary Levi.

"The fans of ‘Chuck’ have been incredibly passionate and supportive of the show.  We want to reward this loyalty and activate further social conversation about the incredible new season.  This innovative promotion is an excellent way to accomplish both objectives," said Adam Stotsky, President, NBC Entertainment Marketing.

I don’t see it becoming popular. Nothing compares to Farmtown and farmville. But who knows.

This is a smart idea since many fans campaigned to save Chuck via social media. There were both official efforts and fan efforts. Glad to see it paid off! Chuck won’t win any awards, but it’s cute and clever and likely better than most dramadies on the air.

I think this was a brilliant move by NBC to use social media to generate interest in the show. Most companies are clueless when it comes to using social media.

  8. Interesting! Taking game theory to a new level. Points for your social media activity. Hope it doesn’t turn into the class participation, though ;)
