MSNBC.com just launched a beta of its new mobile news service. The service is ad-supported and free to wireless users (except for the charge they may incur from wireless providers).

The service allows users to get news headlines, video from NBC Nightly News and the Today Show (for example), photo slide shows of sports, events, and celebrity information. The “My Saved Articles” folder lets users store content for a later time.

MSNBC.com says its mobile beta supports a variety of Internet-enabled mobile devices, but maybe not all. Those wishing to watch MSNBC on their mobile will download the software to their phone. As features are added in the future, phones are automatically updated.

The online news company partnered with Action Engine to design to mobile application platform.
