Microsoft Says There’s Too Much Info

Users have the capability to cheaply retain a lot of data, but don’t have a way to easily sift through it.

Microsoft’s chief researcher called for improvements to search technology in a recent interview.

Richard F. Rashid told The Associated Press in an interview that technology in some ways is outpacing people’s ability to use it meaningfully.

While technology advancements will allow people easier ways to keep those multitudes of memories from a Disney vacation for years, they may find it difficult to track down a particular image, like that of an innocent child kissing a smiling Dumbo. Most people do not take care to organize their information, and for some there’s simply too much to organize.

One solution could be to include additional information within the data, such as GPS coordinates and real-world location names and dates in a picture. Those concerned with privacy will likely scream loudly at such an option, and developers will have to tread lightly as they try to integrate this meta-data and enable effective searching for average users.
