Melanie Griffith And Antonio Banderas Divorcing

By: Ellisha Rader Mannering - June 8, 2014

Very few Hollywood couples withstand the test of time, but Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas lasted 18 years before announcing their separation and divorce. The couple cited irreconcilable differences as the reason they decided to end their marriage, and claim that the decision was amicable.

Both Griffith and Banderas have successful acting careers and donate to numerous charities. Griffith has admitted to battling drug and alcohol problems, but after marrying Baderas in 1996, she began to clean up her act. During their marriage, the couple split their time between the United States and Spain, as did their children.

Griffith has been divorced three other times and Banderas has been divorced two other times. Together, they have a 17-year-old daughter named Stella, who Griffith is seeking custody of. Griffith hopes to keep physical custody of Stella and joint legal custody, she plans for Banderas to have visitation rights.

Both Griffith and Banderas also have other children from previous marriages, all of which are older than Stella.

Stella will turn 18 in September, so any custody arrangements or child support payments will not last long.

Although the couple seemed happy together, there were rumors that the marriage was headed for trouble just a few years ago. They dismissed the rumors until recently.

The couple released a joint statement about their decision to split and divorce saying,

“We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years (of) marriage.”

Griffith is asking for spousal support and although they are parting ways on good terms, things could get complicated when it comes time to split up their properties. They have numerous homes in both Spain and the United States.

Are you sad to see the couple split up and what do you think is the real reason for the divorce?

He couldn’t deal with that kind of insecurity anymore. Or look at that face, the wreckage of her obssesive behaviors.

She is getting older and looks it and he does not. Lets face it her years of miss treating her body does take a toll. I think she is the jealous type. Women tend to become jealous when the man does not age as they do. With age woman look old, with some men they tend to look better with age.

He doesn’t look aged? Do you need before and after pictures? These are some pretty ridiculous generalizations you are making.

      • cindy

@Stacey ,I don’t think she said he looks aged, read the post again

        • Me

Stacey read the post, she was asking a sarcastic question, that is why she said do you need before and after pics. you misinterpreted Cindy. Either way their divorce is their business.

As with any relationship, it is difficult when it ends. Best wishes to both.

I’m sad to see it happen. After eighteen years invested in another human being, it is heartbreaking I’m sure. I hope they each find their peace and happy ending.

    Why is this news?

  • Stacey

No need to speculate about people you do not know. It is their personal and private business.

Why do celebrity marriages and divorces receive so much press? Do we really care?

  • Guest

I think it is the best for both go them they deserve to find real love and happiness.

  • Cindy Gibson Huff

I think that it is the best thing for them both. Now they can each find new love and happiness.

They both look tired…as ppl who stay together longer than they should, always do. At least their daughter had the benefit of having both parents as long as she did. Hope they both find happiness.

Sorry to see anyone divorce, but I never thought they matched.

Are you serious people when you talk about looks and a relationship?? We all age. Is that how we judge each other? If so, how shallow.

  • Funnygirl

Excuse me, but I think he’s aged as much as she has. Nobody looks like they did 20 or 30 years ago.
