  • Mark Wahlberg plays a rather protective father in the upcoming film Transformers: Age of Extinction, but he thinks he likely plays an even more protective role as a real dad at home.

“He’s an ordinary guy forced to do extraordinary things just to keep his daughter alive,” Wahlberg said of his character. “And people can certainly identify with that and root for him.”

“I don’t plan on ever letting my daughters date,” Wahlberg said during a recent interview with CBS about his real, off-screen children. “I’m going to try to do everything I can to prevent it. You know, it just terrifies me. It just terrifies me.”

His feelings likely stem from the life he led long before he was the front man for Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch or a sought-after Hollywood actor. He was a high school dropout who assaulted a man and spent time in jail for doing so.

“I have a lot of real life experience that I can draw on,” Wahlberg said. “And I think that shows in the characters that I play because I’m always trying to find somebody — or find characters to play that I can identify with on a personal level or relate to. And I think it makes for a little bit more of an honest portrayal.”

Mark Wahlberg also talked about second chances–something he is grateful for getting–but something he hopes his own kids–two boys and two girls who span the ages from 4 to 10–are never in need of, at least not for the same reasons.

“Once I got a second chance, I was never going to do anything to mess it up. And I, you know, I feel so fortunate to do what I do,” Wahlberg said. “It’s only right that I give it my all and I respect what I do and the people that I work with… People are taking chances on me. I make sure that I deliver.”

Mark Wahlberg has lived enough real-life lessons to instill strong values in his children, however in this day and age sometimes that makes no difference at all. Peer pressure and the media count for a lot of what impressionable young people say and do, regardless of their upbringing. Wahlberg is a devout Catholic and his children are growing up attending church regularly, however. The actor believes that will play a vital role in the people they become.

Mark has worked on his physique to prepare for roles–including this latest one in Transformers: Age of Extinction. In fact, he’s pretty buff. No one would want to mess with a guy like Mark Wahlberg–and that includes any of those daughters’ boyfriends–if they are ever actually allowed to date.
