Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni–better known as Detectives Benson and Stabler on the hit TV show Law & Order: SVU– were reunited again at a Joyful Heart Foundation event last week. The two actors made up one of the best loved pairs of detectives on a crime show. Season after season fans held out hope that some sort of spark might ignite between the two. Some seasons there was a tension that hinted at passion, but the two maintained respect for their friendship instead.

Fans who gave up on a romantic relationship between Stabler and Benson haven’t yet given up hope that at some point Christopher Meloni will return to Law & Order: SVU in his Elliot Stabler persona and make a visit. That episode, if it ever comes to fruition, would likely be among the most talked about of the entire season.

Mariska Hargitay was extremely excited to share a selfie of her with Chris Meloni, and she did so by posting it to her Instagram account. She captioned the photo, “Look who I found! #Togetheragain,”

It wasn’t so long ago that Chris Meloni appeared at another event with Mariska Hargitay to promote her Joyful Heart Foundation, which helps heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and child abuse. As she mentions in the above video clip, she truly appreciates the support her current and former cast members provide for the organization that is so near and dear to her heart.

While in Detroit last week, Hargitay spoke out about a huge backlog of rape kits in the metro Detroit area. She is pushing for both funding and legislation to help clear more than 11,000 untested rape kits found in a Detroit police warehouse.

“To me, this is the clearest and most shocking demonstration of how we regard these crimes,” she said during her speech. “One would assume that if someone endures a four-to six-hour invasive examination, that that evidence would be handled with care.”

Mariska Hargitay is a dynamic woman. On screen she plays Olivia Benson, the detective who fights sexual offenders. Off screen she raises both money and awareness to help those who suffer at the hands of such perpetrators. In addition to these roles she is a wife and mother of three children.

Are you among those fans who would love to see Hargitay and Meloni reunited on Law & Order: SVU?

Never missed it while he was on now- i catch it when I can. I like her and Ice and the rest but it lost that special something when he left, was let go or whatever happened. It just didn’t have that same feeling.

  • Sigarelli

Way to walk the walk. She cut through that red tape and showed us that at least one person cares that rape kits were sitting there untested for years. Grab your red tape scissors and carry on. You’re awesome.

Love the show and they really were great together. I do hope that Chris Meloni will come back…

ITS SVU—-not talking about SUV’s….Wish he would come back…with the captain gone and Munch gone….and Stabler….WHOS next?

      • Pammy

At least we’ve still got Ice. He’s great.

  • Mahala1963

I hope that he comes back to the show, BUT that Go/T makes him look very OLD..

Love the show and what she does in real life to help those who have survived the very thing she fights for..Just wish we had someone or a organization around here that puts the effort and love like she does on and off the show..As i am survivor myself but lost use of my legs due to it..And i fight everyday to walk again but it seems the government around here in New York only care about money and not the people..Keep up the great work Mariska Hargitay and i hope someone like you steps up and helps us here like you do for others..God bless you..

Hugs and healing, maryjo. I’m so sorry to hear you’re having trouble getting the support you need. Have you tried contacting RAINN? Their website shows many local centers in NY. All the best.

I love SUV, been a fan since day one and I loooove Mariska and Christopher and was devastated when he left the series. Would be a great treat if he comes back, even for just a few episodes. ;o) By the way, I’ve been missing Dan Florek. I hope he’d come back. I’d prefer Benson to go back on the street instead of being tied on the desk as the new leader of the team.

    • WeAreNotAmused

Florek’s character was forced to retire. Florek may want to do more live theatre, which is one of his passions.

  • Thom Pecoraro

    She ain’t aging too well
and he gave great BJ’s in OZ !

    • Peggy

I beg to differ. Mariska is aging naturally and beautifully. Your mindset is what makes female Hollywood stars feel they need tons of “work” to defy the effects of aging. As someone once said, “Father Time is undefeated.” Would you rather she look like Joan Rivers. She’s beautiful – inside and out!

    • nina

And how are you aging asshole?

      • thomas j. kavany

        Amen, nina.

    • Didymus

are you kidding ? Mariska is one of the only really beautiful women left. She is one of the most real, if not the only real women around. I hope Dan fairs well, but i think this is the greatest detective show since Perry Mason. If Christopher does come back, hope it is not out of defeat, but really wanting too.

    Love the beard!!!!

  • Jennianne72

What a positive role model and inspiration. I recently read an article about her and her positive self-image. The world needs more of you. Thank you for doing what you do.

  • Justjj

I still love SVU, there’s something missing without Chris. They shared an intimacy, although innocent that left you eager to see the episode. Please bring him back to the show. This show is talked about so much. I love it and everyone .

  • mcrue

all I want to see back is the Captain. No real show without him. Surprisingly I like Danny Pino and much as Meloni

L & O is getting old. How about a new show, new plots, starring the two??

    • WeAreNotAmused

Then don’t watch; perhaps you’re the one “getting old.” Mariska and the whole crew are doing phenomenal work with SVU; as long as sexual assault victims and abused children keep getting the short end of the stick, their work is far from “old” or finished. How many cop shows can say they make such a difference in real victims’ lives? This season, the show has taken on many current issues rather effectively. If it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it.

      • Cubby

Too late …. too many integral characters are gone. This will probably be the last season, I’m afraid.

  • Bea

An avid fan from day 1. Stabler, please come back!

  • Pammy

What an excellent show when Chris Meloni was on Law & Order SVU! He’s a great actor. I miss his work.

    • Cubby

I miss Stabler, Munch, and the captain. Surprisingly, I also miss the FBI psych and the ME. It just all worked so well together. There may never be a cop show as great as SVU!!

  • Carla Sposito

Love SVU and my admiration for Mariska Hargitay has always been. She is the great name of the show, with his strength, his determination. But I admit, after the departure of Meloni, he fouls. Eliot was a great character. The show is still good though and is one of the few decent things on television.

As for Mariska, my God, she is like wine. The more time passes, the better it gets. Linda, a natural beauty, Mariska is an example and an inspiration to women.

  • Stacy Schauer-Dekoning

I think it would be a mistake to bring him back. Besides, he’s starting a comedy on Fox. I thought I would miss him more than I do, but I like seeing him on other shows. Since he left SVU it seems like there is more of an ensemble dynamic which, if you go back to the first season, is how it started. We get to see more of the other characters like Amaro, Fin and Rollins doing their thing. One thing that has definitely evolved over the years is that they’ve shown us deeper aspects of the characters. 15 years ago it was a very “crime of the week” procedural show, which gets very repetitive. I like the turn they’ve taken in recent years to show more of the private aspects of the characters, not just procedural stuff.
