Mamma Knows Best
Mamma.com and Pixsy Media Search Platform welcome the newest member of the family: a new video search engine.
Mamma.com celebrated the new addition of a video search engine in a beta format to their site earlier today.
Created in 1996, representatives of the site call Mamma.com a “smart” metasearch engine – every time you type in a query Mamma simultaneously searches a variety of engines, directories, and deep content sites, properly formats the words and syntax for each, compiles their results in a virtual database, eliminates duplicates, and displays them in a uniform manner according to relevance. It’s like using multiple search engines, all at the same time.”
In a collaboration with Pixsy Media Search Platform, Mamma.com has expanded it’s family with a video search feature that provides visual search information based on relevance, categories, photos, and video. Now when users type in a query, using the “Videos” tab, Mamma finds highly relevant results from various online video content sites.
The Pixsy technology enables users with ability to search for videos from online video content providers such as YouTube, Revver, StupidVideos.com, AddictingClips.com, Blastro, BusinessWeek, Grouper, MetaCafe, Reuters, Sharkle, Roo Media, and USA Today from one localized source rather than visiting each site individually to search.
Guy Faure, President and CEO of Mamma.com believes that the aggregation of the various content of the sites will lead their search engine into future success.
“Content is doubling on the Internet, but usership isn’t. We believe strongly in the meta-search platform as a means of aggregating content on vertical platforms, and allowing our users easy points of access and clean navigation to the most relevant content in the vertical markets we currently serve: www.mammahealth.com queries in real-time the top medical web portals on the Internet. Recently released www.mammajobs.com queries the most recent job postings from numerous job search engines. Mamma Videos is another example of our commitment to aggregate best-of-breed content into a simple navigational format for our users,” said Faure.
As Faure stated, Mamma.com does include several other aggregated search features on it’s site including Mamma’s Health Search Engine that may be utilized by site users in diagnosing an illness or the providing an at-home remedy. Also another unique member of Mamma’s family is Mamma Careers, which helps site users find the job that is best suited for them.
Chase Norlin, CEO of Pixsy believes that the collaboration with Mamma.com will be beneficial to his company as well, saying his company is “very excited to be partnered with Mamma.com in expanding their very successful meta-search offering to include video. Mamma.com is a clear winner in the meta-search space and we look forward to collaborating on future offerings.”
