Lupe Fiasco may have been invited to perform at President Obama’s inaugural concert, but that doesn’t mean he supports the current administration. In fact, he used the stage as a platform to rail Obama and proceeded to perform a long (30-minutes plus) anti-war song.

Fiasco, who has been vocal about his displeasure with Obama’s time in office, told audiences he didn’t vote for him this time around, which earned the singer some jeers from the crowd. He was quickly told to move on with his show and refused, causing security to rush the stage and usher him off.

StartUp RockOn, the group which organized the event, released a statement about the incident and were adamant about the fact that it was not an attempt to stifle Fiasco’s opinons, but rather to keep the audience happy.

StartUp RockOn is all about startups helping startups. At Sunday night’s Inauguration Celebration at the Hamilton Live, organizers set out to honor innovative visionaries with grants, accolades and a party worthy of the success we achieved at the RNC and DNC this summer. Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not “kicked off stage” for an “anti-Obama rant.” We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act. Lupe Fiasco repeated the one song for more than 40 minutes.

Article’s a bit misleading. Lupe Fiasco doesn’t vote PERIOD. And he’s made this known in multiple songs. Although he is also anti-Obama, he was not pro Romney.

  • Sprax

Being Anti-Obama does not mean your pro-Romney, Zac. You can be anti-both, it’s called disproving of the status quo.

  • Joseph

    good, I dislike Obama too

There is a time and a place, and that was not it. Whether your pro or anti, that is the problem with my fellow Americans……..you never know when to just keep your mouth shut. When you were a little kid, you remember why you got in trouble, it wasn’t because you lied or did what you did, it was because you couldn’t keep your trap shut. He is President for 4 yrs move on to the next issue.

actually it is the time and the place dummy. The fact that the media caught hold of it shows that it is a good thing for people to see that many black men and women dont support this tyrannt or any liar in the white house for that matter.

i dont support the mockkery that is lupe fiasco i mean why complain about it if its such a big issue to him he should actually do something other than call people racist and saying obama is a terrorist. Be the change you want to see.

        • Darnell

Actually, your comment was mockery. how about YOU BE THE CHANGE YOU WANNA SEE. i’m tired of people saying this and that. He actually did something and i applaud him. There is a man with a backbone, while most of you cowards sit around ‘talking about it’. I lost family in sept. 11th, didn’t receive help, compensation or even a shoulder to cry on because people like you wanted to ‘talk about it’. And now over a decade later and Bush jr and none of his cronies are in prison yet. you see all over the news, youtube and etc…of people in power and cops abusing theirs. Quit being a hater and do something before you try to rag on someone else, HATER’S! GO, LUPE! JESSE VENTURA! WHOO!

Yes he’s president still, doesn’t mean you have to accept his policies or stances on issues, such as war.

Any time a black man doesn’t act the way Europeans American thinks, then he’s looked at like some type of confused and deranged person.

    • James

No you have it completely mixed up. Now that a black man doesn’t support President Obama, all the press act like he is confused and deranged. Obama is a cult. And a lot of black folks that may not like him still vote for him and support him because they are viewed like an uncle tom if they don’t. That

Gaza Stip was getting bombed OBOMBER didn’t say SHIT!

I think it’s precious when ignorant people attempt to sound intelligent. This party was not the time or place for his diatribe. And this comment says a lot about today’s society – “Any time a black man doesn’t act the way Europeans American thinks, then he’s looked at like some confused and deranged person.” This isn’t 1865 or even 1965 so when will the time come when an idiot is an idiot? Throwing race into a discussion about a rude musician (and I use that word loosely) does a disservice to people who actually face racism on a daily basis. The people who attended that party were expecting a good time in line with the days festivities, not a protest by a two-bit musician clamoring for attention before the last vestiges of his career completely slip into irrelevancy. And if you don’t know the time and place for certain behavior then you must be a member of the entitled generation which feels they have a right to everything.
