Springfield, MA assistant basketball coach Timothy Lee Forbes attacked the opposing team's coach after losing a tournament game, and bit off part of his ear.
Forbes, 34, coach of sixth graders at Holy Name School, was charged with assault after police arrived at the scene to find a man suffering from a severe ear laceration. Neither coach is affiliated with Holy Name.
Forbes, who police describe as "the biter," initially fled the scene of the incident, but later turned himself in to Springfield police at around noon on Monday. The biter was charged with mayhem and assault and battery, amongst other charges. He was arraigned yesterday afternoon.
Bystanders apparently yanked the biter off of the winning coach, after a brief melee. The victim, also 34, was brought to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. No word on whether or not Forbes swallowed the ear.
