Local.com Receives Search Patent

Local.com has been awarded a patent for its indexing and retrieving of Web related information by geographical location.

Local.com received patent number 7,231,405 from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patent covers local search technology related to finding location information from Web documents, indexing the information and making it searchable geographically.

In Local.com’s search results are ranked by search term, LocalRank score, location prominence and other factors. The system matches and indexes Web pages from the Internet and generates Web references where it applies.
