Liza Minelli tried but failed miserably at being part of Ellen DeGeneres’s epic Oscars tweet at Sunday night’s Academy Awards. It seems Minelli was simply much too short to make it into the shot that’s now been seen around the world and back several times via Twitter. The star-studded selfie was actually taken by American Hustle star Bradley Cooper, whose long arms and position in front of the group allowed for him to both snap the shot while still staying in the frame. In addition to Cooper and DeGeneres, the selfie included Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong’o and her brother Peter, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Angelina Jolie and more.

If Liza Minelli had perhaps worn some taller heels, she might have made her way into the shot as well. The 67-year-old is very short, however, and therefore was only seen by those behind the photo as it was being taken–as she tried desperately to be part of the gang.

Ellen DeGeneres was able to take a selfie that included Liza Minelli at a different point during the evening, however neither of the women looks especially pleased in the shot. Perhaps neither realized when the picture was actually being taken. Or was Liza really miffed at Ellen’s lack of attention?

Liza Minelli was likely pleased later in the evening when Pink sang a hauntingly beautiful tribute to The Wizard of Oz, performing the song Minelli’s mom Judy Garland was best known for–Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It was a simply amazing and absolutely beautiful rendition of the classic song.

Maybe Liza Minelli will consider wearing higher heels next time or trying harder to position herself in the front of any sort of group photo that is taken. She doesn’t stand a chance at much of anything if she sticks to the back of the crowd with her obvious lack of physical stature.
