Liquor Locator Helps You Find Your Favorite Booze
Some are very, very particular about their liquor, but maybe only a few are so selective they would employ interactive iPhone app magic to find out who carries a certain brand. Nonetheless, Proximo’s Liquor Locator both reinforces a brand image all liquor sellers push—that their customers are a selective, discerning, elite who never settle—and demonstrates how the era of the web app can be strikingly useful to marketers.
Proximo unveiled for its brands 1800 Tequila, Three Olives Vodka, Gran Centenario Tequila, Maestro Dobel Diamond Reposado Tequila, and Ron Matusalem Rum (all we need now is Triple Sec, sweet and sour, and Coke) an online bar and liquor store locator that shows where these brands can be found in a customer’s town.
It’s pretty simple, and works with Google maps. Users just plug in their address or zip code, select bar or liquor store or both, and voila, places of business pop up on the map. An iPhone app is in the works, says a representative of the company.
The locator isn’t perfect, unless it also has insider knowledge of which frat house 1800 Tequila flows like wine (warning: Dumb and Dumber reference) on the University of Kentucky campus, which is, according to the handbook anyway, officially a dry campus.
Regardless, it’s still a pretty clever use of available Web apps. The ability to order customized bottles at the website is a nice touch, too, especially for those “discerning” collegiate bottle collectors proudly displaying what they really did while pursuing their undergrads.
