LinkedIn has launched its LinkedIn Today product for Android, via an update to its previously available Android app. LinkedIn Today was launched in March, touted as a way to get access to what your connections and coworkers are sharing, what your industry peers are sharing, and what stories are considered interesting to a wider audience, outside of your industry.
“If you only have five minutes to catch up on news, LinkedIn Today can help you cut through all the clutter, so you can discover the top headlines you need to read to be better informed everyday,” says LinkedIn’s Liz Reaves Walker.
The term "filter bubble" comes to mind (my headlines read like an even narrower version of Techmeme), but I digress.
"In addition to seeing the top news trending on LinkedIn, you can also access the list of news categories you’re following and discover recommended categories by tapping on the 'Read news by category' section at the top of the page," explains LinkedIn's Chad Whitney… "From here, you can pick any category to see the news stories trending in the category, and choose to follow (or unfollow) new or existing categories. By choosing other categories to follow, you’ll get more relevant news targeted to what you care about most professionally."
When you click from within the LinkedIn app to read a full story, the story opens up within the app itself rather than through a browser. From the user standpoint, that's kind of nice.
LinkedIn promises more to come for its Android app. "The Mobile team is working on some major updates to our Android app, and working through the features the community has requested," says Whitney.
