Leah Remini has been in the headlines a lot recently due to her dramatic break from the Church of Scientology, but now we’re seeing her name in conjunction with TLC after it was announced this week that she’ll star in her very own reality series this summer.

The Learning Channel has become more well known for its slew of reality television shows than for anything educational, and they’re adding the untitled project to their summer lineup which will feature a number of the characters in Remini’s life.

“Leah is a no-nonsense, hard-working, relatable mom, wife, daughter, and sister. Her sharp humor and unfiltered family are a perfect match for the network,” said TLC general manager Nancy Daniels. “This series continues our focus on creating compelling series about remarkable families, using heart and humor to anchor it to the TLC brand.”

The former “King of Queens” actress made waves when she broke ties with the Church of Scientology last year, citing a change of heart when she realized her daughter would be exposed to their teachings and saying they had attempted to pull her away from her family.

“In my house, it’s family first — but I was spending most of my time at the church. So I was saying ‘family first,’ but I wasn’t showing that. I didn’t like the message that sent my daughter….In the church, you’re taught that everybody is lost,” Remini said. “They say they’re loving, caring, nonjudgmental people, but secretly, they were judging the world for not believing what they believed. To me, that is not a spiritual person. That’s a judgmental person, and that is the person that I was. I was a hypocrite, and the worst thing you can be in this world is a hypocrite.”

The church responded recently to Remini’s story, calling her “self-absorbed”.

“It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini with an insatiable craving for attention would exploit her former faith as a publicity stunt by rewriting her history with it, including omitting that she was participating in a program to remain a Scientologist by her own choice, as she was on the verge of being expelled for her ethical lapses,” the church said in a statement.
