Between the reality show, the divorce drama, and his association with the Kardashians, it's easy to forget that Lamar Odom used to be a basketball player, and a pretty darn good one too.
So when he announced that he was signing with a professional team in Spain, some were probably surprised considering Odom hasn't played one lick of pro ball in nearly two years. However, others probably believed playing with the Spanish team was the first step in his road to recovery, but by the looks of it, things didn't turn out that way at all.
According to a representative for Odom's team, Baskonia, he suffered a recent back injury and won't be back to finish out his brief contract.
Following the announcement, the 6'10" forward took to the team's website and said he plans to work hard and return, despite his contract ending. "I am going to try and get back on the court and give you guys a show," he wrote.
He also said that he feels bad for the way things ended this season. "Lamar Odom is an athlete, he is a little embarrassed," he said. "But, at the same time, I am proud to be able to say that I am hurt and that I have a team that understands that I am injured and they are still supportive. That means a lot."
Whether the team resigns Odom remains to be seen, but considering he's now 34 years old, one has to wonder how many good years of playing pro ball he has left. And here's another thing: There's a good chance the NBA won't even go near Odom again, since he's blown great opportunities with three different teams already.
Anyone who has been following Odom's career, knows he's been playing poorly and he never returned to that same dominant player that he was on the Lakers years ago, which makes you wonder if his downfall was totally related to hooking up with the Kardashian family. But who knows.
