Kim Kardashian is pregnant. That is not new news. Kim Kardashian has been the subject of much debate in the past about whether or not she uses Botox injections to enhance her appearance. That is also nothing new. However, now there is the concern that Kim Kardashian is using Botox while she is pregnant.

Some have pointed to facial feature changes in Kim Kardashian recently as supposed evidence that she is using Botox now during pregnancy.

Botox is derived from the botulinum toxin, which is a poison. In small, professionally-administered doses, it is used for cosmetic purposes. In layman's terms, the toxin temporarily paralyzes tiny points in the face and other areas, leading to a smoother look.

Many celebrities have admitted to using this popular cosmetic enhancement. Kim Kardashian would be among good company in doing so. But the dangers of using the substance when pregnant are what is causing the concern.

According to some, using Botox when pregnant may not cause any issues.

Leyda Elizabeth Bowes, a dermatologist in Miami, said she used Botox before discovering she was pregnant.

"I did an extensive search on Botox and Pregnancy in humans, which my colleagues have already mentioned in their statements, and was reassured once again that my pregnancy was going to be just fine. I had my Botox injection on my sixth week of pregnancy (an even more important period in general because organ formation in the embryo happens in the first eight weeks) and today I have a beautiful and healthy five-year-old boy."

Kristin Egan, a facial plastic surgeon in Manhattan Beach says, "Many patients have had Botox before they knew they were pregnant and no adverse effects have been reported. Botox is used to target specific muscles and is unlikely to effect your fetus."

But others have said this is not to be taken lightly, by Kim Kardashian or anyone else. Their basis for this is that no studies of the effects of Botox on pregnant women have ever been done.

Nevertheless, Kim Kardashian says she has not used the substance during her pregnancy at all. On Instagram recently, Kim K said the facial feature changes others have noted in her recently are not due to Botox, but simply to being pregnant.

"Can't wait to show u this contouring make up tutorial for my changing pregnant face! No I don't do fillers or botox when pregnant like some tabloids are reporting, you would have to be really sick to endanger your child like that! Anyone who has been pregnant or gained weight knows your face totally changes! My nose gets bigger, cheeks fuller & my lips swell up. The challenge is trying to adjust the make up to make me feel normal & we will share our tricks on"
