Kiefer Sutherland’s ears must have been burning at San Diego Comic-Con, where he was promoting “24: Live Another Day.” His old 24 co-star, Freddie Prinze, Jr. was at the same event, talking trash about Kiefer.
"I did 24, it was terrible. I hated every moment of it," Prinze said. "Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That’s not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face, I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."
"I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I sort of just stopped.”
Prinze didn’t stop there. He started dissing Sutherland about his height.
"I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ's sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer," he said. "But, at least he was cool and tall. I didn't have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do. Just put the guy on an apple box or don't hire me next time. You know I’m 6 feet and he’s 5’4”. What do you want me to do?“
Prinze told an ABC rep this at Comic-Con where he was promoting his new Disney XD show, “Star Wars Rebels.” Prinze had indeed dropped off the radar for a while, and this is what he offers as his reason.
Fans up and down both camps wondered if Prinze may have been jerking Kiefer’s chain, perhaps having even seen him at the event and deciding to have a little fun with him.
Then came this statement from Sutherland’s rep:
“Kiefer worked with Freddie Prinze, Jr. more than five years ago, and this is the first he has heard of Freddie‘s grievances. Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.”
Then an unnamed Fox TV exec weighed in on the row.
“It’s so out of left field, five years later. We wouldn’t have done another 24 if Kiefer were anything like Freddie described,”
Celebrity crossover trivia: Freddie Prinze, Jr. is married to Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy on TV. Kiefer's dad, Donald Sutherland, played Buffy's original Watcher in the film starring Kristy Swanson. For what it's worth.
