Kelly Rowland is reportedly joining a huge television hit, and there's some speculation that she'll be able to show off her musical abilities nicely on the show.
Rowland--formerly of Destiny's Child--has reportedly signed on to Empire, where she'll play the mother of Terrence Howard's character, Lucious, in flashback scenes. The songstress will join a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Chris Rock, Marisa Tomei, and Alicia Keys this season.
The singer and actress joins a show that has had no shortage of musical talent; Courtney Love, Patti LaBelle, and Mary J. Blige are among the names who have shown up in various episodes. That, coupled with the fact that Howard and co-star Taraji P. Henson have dynamic chemistry, has led to Empire becoming Fox's highest-rated show in years.
Rowland is a busy lady these days; besides landing a role on the hit show, she's also set to judge a singing competition on BET, where she says she hopes to find talented musicians who also stand for something.
“I would like to find a group that is very outspoken about issues and their opinions...It’s been awhile since we’ve had a really impactful girl group," Rowland said.
Kelly recently opened up about how hard she's worked to get back into shape after having her son, saying she worked out several times a day.
"I worked out three times a day. I started with trainer Jeanette Jenkins. She started me slow right after I had the baby. It was yoga, Pilates, and then building up to a hard work out. Then we did weights and then running and cardio. She does the most incredible workout called Tread and Shred—I’d do it three times a week. I swear to you in three weeks I dropped seven pounds. I didn’t want to rush the weight loss. I didn’t want to starve myself and have it come right back. I wanted to burn it all off. I did SoulCycle three times a week with Angela Davis—she’s a goddess. I did dance classes with Aisha Francis—it’s called a Pump Camp. I did that three to four times a week. We did all these lovely sensual dances where we you don’t realize that you are working your core, legs and butt. She was killing me," Kelly Rowland said.
