Keira Knightley’s Tiny Waist, Courtesy of ChanelBy: Mike Tuttle - March 4, 2014
Actress and model Keira Knightley made a bold statement at the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014 earlier today.
The monochrome ensemble, designed by Karl Lagerfeld, featured a cropped black and white top with low-riding matching skirt and a black panel around the waist to accentuate her petite frame.
Though some were shocked by the outfit, it was made to be a sort of optical illusion.
“Keira looks so tiny in these images,” fashion editor Eliza Scarborough told The Daily Mail. “She’s taken the ‘illusion’ dress – where darker panels make the body appear narrower – to another level with the crop top and skirt combination layered over a black body.
“The boxy cut of the white top and A-line skirt which sits at the widest part of the hips makes Keira’s waist seem even smaller in comparison – not that she needs any help with that.
“I would guess the black middle area also has some structuring or boning in it, which will pull in the waist even further. She has taken the full catwalk look but swapped the sneakers for metallic heels for extra height.”
The “illusion” dress was first unveiled in January at the Haute Courture show in France.
Todays Chanel show was a unique setting, the runway commissioned by designer Karl Lagerfeld to be a supermarket theme. Top models seen stomping around the grocery store were Cara Delevingne and Kendall Jenner, daughter of athlete and businessman Bruce Jenner.
In addition to Keira, other celebrities who appeared on the front row of the show were actress Melanie Griffith and singer Rihanna, who sported a dress similar to Keira’s.
The show closed with model Cara hand-in-hand with her uncle Karl.
28-year old Keira, the face of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle, appeared at the show with her husband, musician James Righton. The two began dating in early 2011 and were married in May 2013.
After the show the couple enjoyed lunch with Johnny Depp’s ex-wife, French actress Vanessa Paradis, who also attended the fashion show.
