During a recent interview on the Ellen Degeneres Show, Kate Winslet revealed the reason behind the odd naming of her newborn baby. The name has some family history for her, but may seem incredibly odd to others.

Kate Winslet’s baby boy, who is now 14 weeks old, is named Bear Blaze, which likely surprised a lot of people at time of his birth. Her husband, Ned Rocknroll, has an odd last name as well, causing the couple to decide on going with Winslet as Bear Blaze’s last name.

The Bear part was explained when Winslet said “A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear, and I just had always really loved it.” She said that he was a great figure in her life, and has always been remembered by her, wanting the name to live on.

In addition to making her first public appearance after giving birth on Ellen, Kate Winslet also received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Meanwhile Blaze comes from a house fire that the Oscar-winning actress barely escaped while vacationing in the Caribbean. It happened in 2011, and was also the same weekend that she met Ned Rocknroll.

Kate Winslet was most recently seen in the film Labor Day, and is of course most well-known her role in Titanic, in addition to award-nominated films such as The Reader, and Revolutionary Road.

The house was lost to the fire, but they had survived, and wanted to keep a piece of it, and as a result, they settled on the name Blaze as a middle name. Bear Blaze is the first child that Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll have had together since meeting in 2011, but Winslet has two other children from her previous marriage.

Her two younger kids, Mia (13), and Joe (10), had insisted on choosing a name before the baby was born, and as a family, they had decided on Bear quite early on, according to Winslet.

Earlier this year, she talked about how all excited each of them were for the new baby when saying “All our families are so excited [about Bear]. And it’s Ned’s first baby — I can’t wait for that bit, actually.”

Kate Winslet joked about how they couldn’t give their son her husband’s last name because of what it could do to him later in life, and revealed some interesting details involving her baby’s odd name in the episode. Her next film, Divergent, opens soon, and co-stars Shailene Woodley.
