I can’t help but think of Princess Diana when I look at Kate Middleton, mostly because–much like Prince William’s mother–Middleton is the object of fascination and speculation for so many. People are always eager to know what she’s wearing, who she was seen with, where she was. Middleton was groomed for her role in the royal family, so it’s likely she’s been trained on how to deal with such public scrutiny; hopefully it will serve her well in the years to come, because the attention sure isn’t going away any time soon.

The Duchess was photographed attending a posh dinner with husband Prince William in London on Tuesday, and her ankle-length white gown has been the topic of celebrity buzz ever since. The dress–designed by Roland Mouret–was long sleeved and covered her collarbone, but was given a touch of sass with a long slit in the front, which showed quite a bit of her toned legs. The question on everyone’s minds, therefore, is whether or not the dress was appropriate for Middleton, given her public stature, or if she should be allowed to wear trendy young frocks like everyone else her age.

She is now a royal member and should remember that, so her dress choices should reflect standards that the monarchy wishes to uphold. If royal members start to dress daringly, then the rest of the population who do not now dress “daringly” will soon follow suit

There’s something wrong with theorizing that the royal members have that kind of power. I hardly think this dress will rock the rest of the population THAT much.

OMG, Seriously she’s boring and this dress is boring. Let’s move on to someone or something interesting. I mean shit I could understand if she was Princess Diana exciting, but noooo she’s all vanilla boring.

I think this is wonderful and she’s a beautiful lady- Princess- Let her were it and others like it. She didn’t copy anyone, she likes it and it great on her. Besides, look at these teens, especially in Texas, look like trash- should take notice from roality.

  • Dawn McDermott

Seriously?!?!? It is a floor length dress that covers Princess Kate right up to her neck. Disney characters show more skin!

  • Crochette

I’m sure that if it was inappropriate Prince William would of said something to her about it. Ok with him, ok with me. Give it up people. Geezzzzzzzzzzz.

  • Susan

The dress parts only to show her leg up above maybe 3-4 inches from her knee, nothing shocking. I don’t understand the cause for alarm, nor the sensationalized headline. Yes, she’s a duchess. I guess the press must find something to show she’s stepping out of line or something.

Please! There is nothing indiscriminate about her dress. She has very good taste.

  • http://Yahoo Janice Jones

She is and eleqant beautiful young woman who carries herself in such a manner. No, the dress is not distasteful she is a thing of beauty.

  • Julie

This dress is beautiful! I’m surprised there is any controversy. People must be “desperate” to actually be having an issue with this!

  • Natasha

She looks wonderful. The dress fits her perfectly, and I really don’t see the big deal about the amount of leg that she is showing. Dutchess Catherine is a young beautiful woman, and she represents herself, her husband, and her subjects well.

THE SAYING GOES THAT ALL IS IN THE MINDS OF THE BEHOLDER. THE DRESS WAS CERTAINLY APPROPRIATE FOR A FORMAL DINNER, WHAT WITH WOMEN ALL OVER THE WORLD EXPOSING THEMSELVES, EVEN AT THEIR WEDDING, IN STRAPLESS DRESS. ONLY ABOUT 1 1/2 INCHES OF LEG WERE SHOWN ABOVE THE KNEE IN THE WHITE DRESS WORN BY KATE MIDDLETON; I HAVE SEEN PHOTOS OF KATE MIDDLETON SHOWING BOTH LEGS EXPOSED IN ONE OR TWO MINI DRESSES ABOUT 3 1/2 INCHES OR MORE ABOVE THE KNEES. THIS DRESS WAS MODEST COMPARED TO THE ABOVE-MENTIONED MINI DRESSES SHOWN TO THE WORLD. ANN_COE1
