Kandi Burruss Marries Despite Mama Joyce’s Warnings

By: Pam Wright - April 6, 2014

Kandi Burruss has been warned.

Despite voiced trepidations by her mom — known to the world as Mama Joyce — Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss married former producer Todd Tucker on Friday.

Mama Joyce has told her daughter repeatedly she believes Tucker is using her and even accused him of sleeping with Burruss’ assistant Carmon.

When Tucker refused to sign a prenup, it only seemed to confirm her worries.

The 37-year-old reality star refused to listen to her mama and went forward with the wedding in spite of all the warnings.

Despite reservations, Mama Joyce did attend the wedding and even offered the newlyweds a beautiful toast in front of family and friends at a reception following the wedding.

The feud between Mama Joyce and her daughter over her son-in-law’s true intentions has played out on the Bravo show. Tucker tried to work things out with Mama Joyce, having numerous conversations on the show with his future mother-in-law.

At one point, he asks Mama Joyce if she’s getting excited about her daughter’s wedding.

Her response was a definitive NOT.

Todd asked Mama Joyce why it has to be so difficult to communicate. “If it’s ‘Todd, I’m probably never going to like you,’ I can live with that. I didn’t stop liking you, I stopped respecting you,” she responded.

“They’re together, but I’m out of their relationship,” Mama Joyce said in January. “It’s much healthier. I have rekindled a very healthy relationship with my daughter, and my granddaughter [Riley], and we are in a very good place…I pray and hope that I’m wrong about Todd.”

The feud has even played out on shows like The View.

Burruss is a Grammy-winning singer and songwriter and a former member of R&B group Xscape.

The couple became engaged last January after meeting on the show in 2011.

Burruss was engaged once before to the late A.J. Jewell, who was killed in a bar fight in 2009. She has an 11-year-old daughter, Riley, with ex-boyfriend Russell Spencer of Block Entertainment. This is the first marriage for both of them.

What do you think? Will the marriage last?

I pray that Kandi and Todd will have a wonderful life….and that can only happen if Kandi’s mother stays out of their lives. Seriously.

Good for her and Todd!! Mama Joyce needs to butt out of their relationship. I wish them all the happiness. Kandi seems very grounded to me and so does Todd.

HELL NAWWW. BE REAL FOLKS. Todd is a wise man and Kandi isn’t. Quit his job. Rufused a job offering just to work with Kandi’s play. Straight strategic move. If Divorce evr happen. She’ll have to pay him because he refused jobs just work with and for her as a support system. I don’t see the reason to marry or move him in soo soon. She’s desperate for a man. She loves love which I understand BUT, She’s not patient and don’t have street sense. I love me some kandi. I prayed that GOD will show her something before she married. I pray is and always be well with them

Trust your Parents Instincts. Hell the Counselor was a better choice. easy on the eyes. And, if his practice is popular, he’s making at least 6 figures. Which, Mama Joyce said Todd was making 90 to 100,000. But Hell its not millions like Lady K’s pockets. I feel sorry for rich people that’s seeking love. That’s why I would just stick with that same dude that loved me when I just a plain ole plain ole chick with nuttin. but, loved my dirty draws. U know that’s real love. My My My sort of sad
