Junk Food Producers Face EU Ad Ban

    January 20, 2005

Apparently, the United States isn’t the only country with a junk food obsession. The European Union warned junk food producers to label their products clearer or face and advertising ban.

Much like the tobacco industry was ordered in the US, the EU asked the particular food companies to cease targeting their products toward children and to label their products more clearly. If these companies do not comply, they face having their advertisements pulled.

According to HealthTalk.ca,

It is estimated that close to 25 percent of the children in the EU are obese and tough measures must be taken to fight the increasing levels of obesity in the EU.

During an interview with the Financial Times, Kyprianou said Europe used to consider obesity an American problem, and “We made fun of the Americans in a way,” but now, it’s a “European problem”.
