  • Julio Jones suffered a season ending injury on Monday night. Jones, the star receiver for the Atlanta Falcons went down in their week 5 loss to the New York Jets, injuring his foot. The Falcons were already starting to struggle a bit in the beginning of the season, and now they will be forced to play without their star receiver, who is also one of the best receivers in the league.

The team confirmed on Wednesday that he would not be able to return this season, after a big scare on Tuesday. He will have to have surgery on his right foot, preventing him from coming back on the field until next year. A CT scan showed that he suffered a fracture in the same location where he fractured it after the 2011 NFL scouting combine, according to ESPN. Fans certainly freaked out after seeing him go down, knowing that he has been injured before, and that it could be a problem for them.

Jones currently leads the Falcons with 41 catches for 580 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately with him out, the already struggling 1-4 Falcons are going to need a lot of help if they are going to have any chance at a winning season this year. After their disappointing start to the season, this is just more bad news to add for the Falcons and they are already trailing the unbeaten Saints in the NFC South division by four games. Falcons owner Arthur Blank is very disappointed with the way things are going and told USA Today “You know, when it rains, it pours. In this case, we’re having a monsoon right now in Atlanta.”

Mike Smith, the head coach of the Falcons, said that they will look at all of their possible options for replacing him. Luckily for them, this tragic news comes just before their bye week, and will give them a bit more time before they have to make a decision. Their offense is already being forced to deal with other injuries including their running back Steven Jackson, and Roddy White, who injured his hamstring on Monday night. Michael Vick of the Eagles also injured his hamstring in their game on Sunday. It seems that with all of the injuries that have been piling up this season, the league will have to change the rules somehow or something, in order to help the health of players.
