  • Julianna Margulies opened up to her Facebook fans today about the shocking episode of “The Good Wife” that aired on Sunday night, saying she’s known about the decision to kill off a main character for a while and was okay with it.

The episode sent fans to social media immediately as they tried to come to grips with what had just happened, and the show’s writers penned an open letter to explain why they chose to do what they did.

    *Caution: Spoiler alert!*

Margulies said she thought the plan to kill of Will’s character was “brilliant” during a Facebook Q&A on Monday afternoon and added that her character, Alicia, won’t be seeing another man anytime soon despite what fans may want for her.

“I think the reason everyone wanted Will and Alicia together was because they weren’t together…I actually never thought they could make it, too much baggage on both sides,” she said. “I really encourage you to watch this coming Sunday’s episode, you will see what she really thinks about Will. And bring tissues.”

The show’s creator, Robert King, released an open letter to fans this morning on behalf of himself and his wife, Michelle, saying that actor Josh Charles will be missed and explaining their decision.

“We, like you, mourn the loss of Will Gardner. And while Will is gone, our beloved Josh Charles is very much alive and remains an integral part of our family,” they wrote. “The Good Wife, at its heart, is the “Education of Alicia Florrick.” To us, there always was a tragedy at the center of Will and Alicia’s relationship: the tragedy of bad timing. And when faced with the gut punch of Josh’s decision, made over a year ago, to move on to other creative endeavors, we had a major choice to make. We could “send him off to Seattle,” he could be disbarred, or get married, or go off to Borneo to do good works. But there was something in the passion that Will and Alicia shared that made distance a meager hurdle. The brutal honesty and reality of death speaks to the truth and tragedy of bad timing for these two characters. Will’s death propels Alicia into her newest incarnation.”
