  • Joey Feek–half of the country-bluegrass duo Joey + Rory–is at home under hospice care, as cancer ravishes her frail body. Despite her disease, she hasn’t given up. In fact, Joey Feek is holding out hope for a Christmas miracle.

Rory Feek, Joey’s husband, writes a blog that has helped fans and those close to the family stay apprised of Joey’s condition. In a recent post on This Life I Live, Rory wrote about Joey Feek’s optimism.

“Her friends gathered around her on the couch and she told them of her hope that she might be able to still be here for Christmas, or for Indiana’s second birthday in February,” he wrote. “Joey’s hope never fades. No amount of pain or medicine can touch it. It runs too deep. It’s connected to her faith in God. And as she will tell you, God can do anything.”

During an interview with The Tennessean last week, Joey Feek shared the thoughts in her heart and on her mind.

“I wasn’t mad at [God], I wasn’t upset,” she explained. “I was just greatly disappointed. I really thought we had it. I thought, ‘I’m going to be that exception. I’m going to be that statistic that stands out and says, ‘She fought it.’ We did the most extreme surgery we can do in the gynecologic world, and she did well.’ But for whatever reason, it wasn’t enough, and God had different plans. I was disappointed. I was exhausted.”

“I pray that one morning I just don’t wake up,” she added. “But I don’t fear anything because I’m so close to God and we’ve talked about it so many times. I know he’s close. And I know he loves me. I’m really at peace. I still believe there’s healing in prayer.”

Last weekend Joey Feek posed for an emotional photo with daughter Indiana and her stepdaughters Hopie and Heidi. Rory’s daughters drove up to spend Sunday with their stepmom, whom they love dearly.

…our girls drove up here last night to spend more time with their mom and baby sister.

Joey Feek is setting such a strong example for Christians with her unwavering faith. How wonderful would it be if she were to live to see one more Christmas and little Indiana’s second birthday?

It would be quite a miracle indeed.
