Jimi Hendrix Biopic Releases Exclusive Clips Featuring Andre Benjamin [Video]
For those that have not become aware yet, there is an upcoming biopic that will feature Andre Benjamin in the role of rock legend Jimi Hendrix. Benjamin is known to many as Andre 3000, and half of the hip hop duo Outkast.
Two clips were recently released showing fans what it will be like to see the Jimi Hendrix portrayed on the big screen for the first time. The film is set to be screened at the upcoming SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
The film will be distributed by Open Road productions, and also features Imogen Poots as Linda Keith, who is featured in one of the early clips. Keith was also a girlfriend to Keith Richards, and she inspired songs that each of them wrote, including Hendrix’s “Red House.”
The film, which is titled All Is By My Side, already had a premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last fall, although its release date for the United States is unknown at this time. As a musician, Hendrix has been widely regarded as one of the best in his genre, and due to his outstanding skills on the electric guitar, he continues to remain popular in the rock genre.
JImi Hendrix was known for his popular songs such as “Purple Haze,” “The Wind Cries Mary,” “Hey Joe,” and many more, but he has truly captivated fans for decades due to his guitar skills. He died at the age of 27, and was not able to have a long career like many others of his time.
However, due to issues with Jimi Hendrix’s estate, the film is not able to include the songs that he wrote, and made popular. However, he also made songs by other people famous, and gave his unique take on others, with “All Along The Watchtower and “The Star Spangled Banner” as likely inclusions in the film.
As with other films that profile musicians such as Walk The Line and Ray, All Is By My Side will focus on Jimi Hendrix in his early years, and lead up to the time when he became a famous musician.
The Jimi Hendrix film is sure to be well-done, as it will be written, and directed by John Ridley. Ridley is just coming off of an Oscar win for his screenplay for 12 Years A Slave, a film that also won Best Picture, and was directed by Steve McQueen.
